Shomi Kaiser Secures Bail, Walks Free from Prison

Former president of the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) and actress Shomi Kaiser has been released on bail. She walked out of Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail at around 10:40 pm on Thursday, August 14.

Confirming her bail release in an attempted murder case linked to the July movement, Additional Inspector General of Prisons (DIG Prisons) Jahangir Kabir said, “In the case filed with Uttara East Police Station, she was freed on bail and left Kashimpur Women’s Jail.”

Shomi Kaiser had been arrested from her Uttara residence on the night of November 5 last year. She was later shown arrested in connection with an attempted murder during the July uprising. Failing to secure bail from the lower court in the Uttara East Police Station case, she appealed to the High Court, which granted her bail on March 12 this year.

Meanwhile, on April 9, she was shown arrested in another attempted murder case involving a college student in Azampur. She was granted bail in that case as well on Monday.

Following the fall of the government on August 5, Shomi Kaiser resigned from her position as president of the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) on August 14.
