Bangladesh University Hosts Seminar on Shaping Careers in a Fast-Changing World

In response to the rapidly evolving technological and market landscape, the Department of Business Administration at Bangladesh University organized a seminar titled “Building Careers in a Rapidly Changing World and Meeting Employers’ Expectations.” The event aimed to enhance students’ skills, mental preparedness, and professional competence.

The seminar was held on Saturday, July 27, at 2:00 PM in the university’s hall room, with participation from corporate professionals, academics, and senior university administrators.

Renowned corporate figure and former Managing Director of British American Tobacco Bangladesh, Shehzad Munim, was the keynote speaker. Drawing from his extensive career experience, he stated, “It’s no longer enough for today’s graduates to simply hold a degree. They must be tech-savvy, creative in decision-making, and highly adaptable.”

He further emphasized that modern employers seek individuals who not only understand their job roles but also possess the mindset to help organizations move forward. Addressing students, he highlighted the importance of patience, discipline, and self-confidence in the early stages of one’s career. Shehzad Munim also shared personal insights into the challenges he faced, how he overcame them, and the milestones he achieved.

Distinguished guest Shahneela Tajrin Azhar, honorable member of the Bangladesh University Board of Trustees, remarked, “To succeed in a career, one needs more than confidence. Innovative thinking, teamwork, and strong ethical values are equally essential.” She also shed light on the importance of women’s leadership, entrepreneurial mindset, and social responsibility among students.

In his remarks, the honorable Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University, Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, stated, “BU’s primary objective is not just to award degrees but to nurture a skilled and humane future generation. To that end, Bangladesh University regularly organizes such seminars.”

The event began with a welcome speech by the session chair and Chairman of the Department of Business Administration, Professor Dr. Mozakkerul Huda. “Today’s world is increasingly competitive,” he said. “Universities must prepare their students not just to seek jobs, but to create them. Bangladesh University continues to strive toward that mission.”

Students expressed that events like this provide them with a clearer perspective of real-life challenges and inspire self-development. They voiced hope that Bangladesh University will continue organizing such activities to equip them with market-relevant skills.

The seminar was attended by deans from various faculties, department heads, faculty members, and students. The interactive question-and-answer and open discussion sessions sparked great enthusiasm among participants.
