The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police has arrested a man named Md. Shoaib (41) on charges of blackmailing a woman into a physical relationship and extorting money after befriending her through the social media platform TikTok. He was detained by the Cyber Police Centre (CPC) of the CID during a raid in Dhaka’s Malibagh area under Shahjahanpur Police Station on Monday, July 7.

Presenting the accused before the media on Tuesday, July 8, CID’s Special Superintendent of Police (Media), Jasim Uddin Khan, stated, “The accused, Shoaib, came into contact with the victim through TikTok. They began communicating regularly via the IMO messaging app. During their conversations, he recorded intimate video footage of the woman during a video call.”

He added, “Shoaib later used these videos to blackmail the victim, coercing her into a physical relationship on multiple occasions and extorting a total of Tk 800,000. When he demanded more money and the woman refused, Shoaib went on to distribute her private photos and videos online.”

Following the incident, the victim filed a complaint at Rampura Police Station on June 26. Based on that, CID launched an investigation and arrested Shoaib during the July 7 operation in Malibagh.
