Price Panic Prevention: ‘Bazardor’ App Launched to Tackle Market Manipulation

In an effort to combat artificial crises around essential commodities such as oil, eggs, and onions—often manipulated through pricing tricks and hoarding tactics—a mobile application named Bazardor has been officially launched by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP). The Android-based app was originally developed by Md. Ibrahim Mollah, a student of Computer Science and Engineering at Daffodil Institute of IT (DIIT), who reportedly faced life threats for his initiative.

Ignoring those threats, the DNCRP formally unveiled the app on June 23 at its headquarters in Kawranbazar, Dhaka. The app will now provide real-time updates of the maximum retail prices of commodities across all 64 districts of the country, directly accessible via smartphones.

During the inauguration, DNCRP Director General Alim Akhtar Khan said, “If consumers are aware of the actual maximum prices of products, deception and overpricing will gradually diminish.”

Developed entirely free of charge based on the Directorate's requirements, the app was built to empower consumers with accurate pricing information. Speaking at the launch, developer Ibrahim Mollah explained, “The ‘Bazardor’ app can be downloaded on any Android phone and is also functional offline, making it more accessible and user-friendly.”

He further added that the app is expected to help curb market manipulation and ensure fair pricing of agricultural and daily essentials for consumers by providing transparent and reliable data.
