Global ICT Price Pressure Worries BCS
Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) has expressed deep concern over a possible sharp rise in ICT product prices in the international market, warning that the impact may be felt throughout the year. Recent global market analyses indicate that prices of key components—such as display panels, processors, memory chips, storage devices, SSDs, and raw materials including copper—have already increased significantly and are likely to continue rising.
According to reports by international technology analysts and research institutions, prices of these products could rise by an average of 20 to 30 percent. This surge is expected to affect not only global markets but also Bangladesh’s ICT product market directly.
Experts attribute the price hike to several factors, including soaring global demand for AI-based semiconductor products, rapid expansion of cloud computing and electric vehicle industries, geopolitical instability, disruptions in international supply chains, increased energy and transportation costs, and shortages of key metallic raw materials such as copper.
The impact of the price increase is expected to be particularly severe on ICT components such as display panels, processors, memory (RAM/ROM), SSDs, hard drives, and networking equipment. As Bangladesh’s ICT sector is heavily dependent on imported raw materials, the global situation is likely to have a direct bearing on the domestic market.
BCS President Mohammad Zahirul Islam said that an assessment of the 2026 global market scenario suggests that prices of ICT raw materials and essential components may increase by 20 to 30 percent throughout the year, alongside the risk of supply shortages compared to demand.
In light of the situation, he said BCS is proactively informing ICT traders, importers, distributors, and consumers across the country to exercise caution when placing and accepting orders, and to coordinate closely with supply chains. He urged stakeholders to adopt advance planning for imports, remain vigilant in inventory management, maintain transparent communication with customers, and refrain from unreasonable price hikes.
The BCS president also advised consumers to plan ICT purchases in consideration of global market developments, while urging sellers to operate responsibly through rational price adjustments.
