Bright Minds and Bold Models at 46th National Science and Technology Week

The 46th National Science and Technology Week and Fair 2025 is currently underway at the auditorium of the National Science and Technology Complex in Agargaon, Dhaka. The three-day national event has brought together students, young scientists, inventors, and entrepreneurs from across Bangladesh. Alongside the exhibition, the 9th National Science Olympiad and the 9th Science Quiz Competition are also being held.

On the second day of the festival, June 19, the venue buzzed with excitement as school and college-level innovators showcased a variety of impressive scientific projects. One of the major attractions was a drone developed by the Narsingdi Science and Robotics Lab. A representative from the team said, “Our drone is a military-purpose little drone. This is the first military-grade drone developed privately in Bangladesh. It was entirely designed and developed in our lab. It can carry a payload of approximately six kilograms and can fly for four to five hours.”

Held under the theme “Gyan Biggyane Korbo Joy, Shera Hobo Bishwomoy” (We’ll triumph through knowledge and science, and become the best in the world), the national week has attracted nearly 700 participants from all 64 districts. Across two floors of the Science Complex, students from junior and senior categories are presenting their innovations at 180 stalls. The event has become a showcase of futuristic solutions, especially in the field of robotics and drone technology.

Among the notable projects were a fire-fighting robot from Shariatpur and a multipurpose military robot from Tangail Science and Robotics Club. Teams from Rajbari displayed ultrasonic wave radars, a smart wheelchair, and an automated gas detector designed for fire safety. The teams were coordinated by Rezaul Karim, Joint Secretary of Rajbari Academy.

The smart wheelchair, designed for paralyzed individuals, includes head and hand gesture controls, eye blink-activated fan and light, health monitoring systems (tracking temperature, heart rate, oxygen saturation), fall detection, medicine reminders, and a voice-controlled AI assistant named ORION. The wheelchair and surrounding devices respond to subtle movements or voice commands. ORION communicates naturally with the user and can send emergency alerts via SMS or call.

From Sunamganj, the champion team from Sunamganj Girls’ High School demonstrated a three-pronged project: generating fuel from harmful plastic, purifying wastewater used in plastic cleaning, and producing electricity through footsteps. Young innovators Anwesha Chowdhury, Tasnim Jannat Eva, Monisha Chakraborty, and Tasnim Ara Tripti presented their dream of building a sustainable city using plastic pyrolysis and other technologies. The project was guided by assistant teachers Md. Imran Hasan and Sultan Ahmed Noyon.

Students from Cox’s Bazar DC College showcased a model for safe and automated vehicles. At a nearby stall, students from Cox’s Bazar Model High School presented a project using radioactive beach sand to sterilize flies and produce toxin-free dried fish.

Other exhibits included a robot car named Project Alpha Bot by Sheikh Sabbir Ahmed Akash of Gopalganj Polytechnic Institute, a blood donation portal from Sirajganj Polytechnic, a renewable energy model from Bhabaniganj Karamatia Fazil Madrasa in Lakshmipur, and an auto-charging car by Government Aditmari Girija Shankar Model School and College’s Team Island. A railway accident prevention system using an app was presented by Barguna’s Quantum Club.

Faridpur’s team brought an eco-friendly project named Econova, while teams from Manikganj and Narayanganj focused on biophilic cities and transmission line safety, respectively. Students from Shahin College in Bogura presented their Eco City model, and Rajbari’s Baliadangi Pilot Model High School came up with an agriculture-centric transport system.

The event continues to serve as a vibrant platform for showcasing the ingenuity of young Bangladeshi minds working at the intersection of science, sustainability, and social impact.
