Campus Commute Goes Green: CU Launches Free Electric Car Service Ahead of Convocation

On the occasion of its fifth convocation, the University of Chittagong (CU) has launched an eco-friendly electric car (e-car) service on campus. To facilitate student mobility, the service will be available free of charge for two days—Tuesday, May 13, and Wednesday, May 14.
The initiative, led by the university administration, brings four e-cars from Dhaka to operate within the campus on a trial basis.
Speaking about the move, CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin said, “Ahead of the convocation, we’ve introduced a modern and environment-friendly transportation system for our students. The e-cars will run for free over the first two days while we observe usage patterns and gather feedback.”
He further added that if the trial proves successful, a full-fledged service with 20 e-cars will be introduced from June, with another 10 added in July. “If the students respond positively, the service will be made permanent,” he said.
According to university sources, each e-car can accommodate 6 to 8 passengers. The vehicles are emission-free and noiseless, contributing to a cleaner and quieter campus environment. The administration plans to establish designated routes and stops for a regular e-car service in the future.
University officials believe that this e-car service will offer students a more comfortable commuting option while playing a vital role in creating a sustainable, eco-conscious campus.
