Apple claimed the top spot in global smartphone sales during the first quarter of this year, according to data from Counterpoint Research. Driven by the growing popularity of the iPhone 16 series and increased demand in markets like Japan and India, the tech giant secured a 19% market share. Samsung followed closely behind with an 18% share, Reuters reported.

Despite flat or declining sales in the United States, Europe, and China, Apple continues to experience strong demand in emerging markets. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), global smartphone shipments rose by 1.5% in the first quarter.

In an effort to avoid the impact of potential tariffs, Apple has shipped 600 tons of iPhones from India to the United States. While former U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff exemptions provided temporary relief for the tech sector, IDC noted that concerns over China's supply chain dependency and ongoing trade instability persist.

Xiaomi ranked third in global smartphone sales, followed by Vivo in fourth and Oppo in fifth.
