Food delivery company Grubhub has announced plans to lay off 500 employees as part of its business restructuring strategy. The decision was revealed by the company's CEO Howard Migdal on Friday, according to a Reuters report.

Grubhub was acquired last year by Wonder, a food delivery startup led by former Walmart executive Marc Lore. As of 2024, Grubhub had over 2,200 full-time employees, with 20% of its workforce now set to be laid off.

Previously, Just Eat Takeaway, Europe’s largest meal delivery company, owned Grubhub. The company had been trying to sell the business for a long time and eventually offloaded it for $650 million, despite acquiring it for a significantly higher price a few years ago.

In an effort to address labor shortages and reduce reliance on vehicles, Grubhub partnered last month with Autonomous Technology Startup Avride, which deploys robots to deliver food across various college campuses in the United States.
