Nahid Islam, the recently resigned adviser to the interim government for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, confirmed his resignation during a press briefing at the state guesthouse Jamuna.

Speaking to journalists, Nahid said, “I have submitted my resignation and stepped down from all committees. Personally, I believe that given the current situation outside the government, it is necessary for me to be on the streets to help foster the rise of a new political force. I need to stand alongside the students and the people.”

Emphasizing his intent to play a more active role outside the government, Nahid added, “In light of the mass uprising on August 8, I, along with two others, assumed responsibilities within the interim government, believing it was necessary to safeguard national security and fulfill the aspirations of the people. Over the past six and a half months, the government has established some stability, although perhaps not all desired outcomes have been achieved.”

He further explained his decision, saying, “The democratic changes we aspire to, and the collective strength of the students and citizens who participated in the mass uprising, need to be unified. I believe my role will be more impactful on the streets than within the government. Our comrades outside the administration share this view, which ultimately led to my resignation today.”

The press conference was attended by the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, along with Deputy Press Secretaries Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar and Apurba Jahangir.

Following the briefing, Nahid Islam left the Jamuna guesthouse on foot, leaving his vehicle behind, symbolizing his return to grassroots activism.
