Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival Showcases Innovation in Storytelling

The 11th Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) kicked off on Saturday (February 22) under the theme “New Generation, New Tools, New Communication.” Organized by the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), the two-day festival will conclude on February 23.

Held at ULAB’s Dhanmondi campus, this year’s festival features films in four categories: Open Door, Short Film, Vertical Film, and One Minute.

In the One Minute category, films such as “Way Out” by Koirom Anik and “In Front of Me” by Md. Rakibul Hasan Rajon were selected. The Vertical Film section includes “The Interview” by Michael James Parks, “Sundori: A Lost Soul” by Zishan J, “A Short: Journey” by Md. Rahatud Zaman Rongon, “Limbas” by M.C. Janet, and “Upload” by Adam George.

The Open Door category features a diverse selection of international films, including “Message” by Saeed Molavi, “Lulu in Turin” by Ian Charles Lister, “Hope” by Arshia Zeinali, “Demon Dog” by Juliana Parnell, “The Red Market” by Christopher Matthew Spencer, and “Whispers of Despair” by Iftiar Ahmed Akib.

The judging panel includes renowned Bangladeshi director Tanim Rahman Anshu for the Open Door and Vertical Film categories, while Hollywood director and writer Richard Greenwood Jr. will judge the Short Film and One Minute categories.

The opening day featured two screening sessions, revealing a strong presence of filmmakers from Chattogram, with Ankit and Inna receiving notable praise for their work.

ULAB Media Studies and Journalism Department Head Suman Rahman and Festival Director Hossain Ahmed Hasibul Haque delivered speeches during the opening ceremony. Actress Nusrat Faria and director Syed Ahmed Shawki attended as special guests.

According to festival organizers, this year’s event, supported by Star Cineplex, will showcase films from 28 countries, highlighting the global appeal of mobile filmmaking.

The closing ceremony will be held at Star Cineplex, Shimanto Shambhar, on February 23 at 6:30 PM.
