Germany's BMW has overtaken compatriot Mercedes-Benz as the first luxury car sold in the international market in 2021. BMW has been recognized as the top brand globally for premium cars in 2021, BMW Head of Sales Peter Nota said in a LinkedIn post. Delivery figures for 2021 are being verified, although full-year analyzes have not yet been released. He described it as a remarkable achievement compared to the Daimler AG brand. The Munich-based company said production of BMWs was less hampered by the global semiconductor chip crisis in the wake of the pandemic. A significant number of the world's leading carmakers were disappointed at the end of the third quarter of last year when they thought of getting out of the chips crisis. In response to BMW's claim, Mercedes says the market has been affected by the crisis in the car manufacturing industry since the first half of last year. Mercedes also said it would work to increase production to meet global demand. A spokesman for the company said BMW had sold and delivered 1.7 million vehicles in the first nine months of 2021, which was 112,000 more than Mercedes-Benz.
