Huawei’s role in Bangladesh’s digital infrastructure
Huawei has operated in Bangladesh since 1998, according to the company’s own publications. Its activities in the country include telecommunications equipment, mobile network development and digital connectivity infrastructure.
According to Huawei, Bangladesh’s first commercial 5G network went live through state-owned operator Teletalk on December 12, 2021, with technical support from the company. In March 2025, Huawei and the ICT Division signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in innovation, capacity building and the ICT ecosystem. Reporting published in November 2025 also described Huawei’s involvement in core government digital infrastructure, including the deployment of the country’s first government cloud using Huawei Cloud Stack.
Today’s scheduled discussions are expected to build on these areas of technological cooperation while examining the next phase of digital infrastructure, technology adoption in industry and the opportunities presented by AI. However, any new agreements, investments or government decisions should not be treated as confirmed unless they are announced through official statements after the event.
