Automated Logistics And Fleet Modernization Propel Postal Delivery Capabilities
Speed Post Moves 400 Tons In 2 Months
- Bangladesh Post Office carried approximately 400 tons of heavy freight in two months utilizing an economical baseline tariff system.
- Digital modernization features web-based automated tariff calculators alongside the deployment of 50 eco-friendly electric delivery motorbikes.
- Centralized operations across Tejgaon processing hub and regional nodes enable guaranteed point-to-point deliver
Transitioning from traditional letter dispatches toward advanced supply chain logistics and mechanized freight routing, Bangladesh Post Office transported approximately 400 tons of commercial and consumer cargo via its upgraded Speed Post service over the past two months. The operation runs on an economical pricing matrix charging BDT 10 for the primary kilogram and BDT 5 for each subsequent kilogram. Director General of the Postal Directorate Kazi Asadul Islam confirmed these developments during an interview on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Under this logistics framework, all non-prohibited legal commodities—spanning industrial and consumer hardware such as motorcycles, refrigerators, air conditioning units, induction cooktops, and agricultural sprayers—are being transported across departmental channels. To enhance technological interfacing, a dynamic digital tariff calculator was integrated into the central web portal. Simultaneously, cross-border deliveries continue to be routed via the high-priority Express Mail Service (EMS) framework.
Strict operational turn-around time (TAT) parameters have been deployed across the distribution grid. The automated schedule mandates delivery from district hubs to Dhaka within 24 hours, inter-district consignments within 48 hours, and remote geographical zones within a maximum threshold of 96 hours. Hazardous cargo—such as volatile flammable compounds, toxic industrial chemicals, pressurized gas cylinders, and ballistics—remains strictly excluded. Real-time digital updates established during recent postal voting systems have reinforced public reliability in postal tracking logistics.
Advancing green logistics and fleet electrification, the agency commissioned 50 smart electric motorbikes running on clean energy for urban dispatches. Mechanical routing operations have been consolidated by fully automating the Central Mail Processing Centre in Tejgaon, handling metropolitan sorting under unified programmatic workflows. To relieve structural throughput constraints at the Kamalapur Railway Mail Terminal, the Dhaka GPO premises are being expanded as a specialized sorting hub for international cross-border cargo, completing an integrated logistics triangle.
