Technical Education Board issues show-cause notice and threatens authorization cancellation
Student Admissions Suspended at 621 Technical Institutes
- New admissions halted across 621 SSC and Dakhil vocational institutes
- Show-cause notice issued with 7 working days to reply due to zero enrollment
- Authorizations subject to cancellation for failing to meet 2024 policy terms
The Bangladesh Technical Education Board has ordered the suspension of new student admissions across 621 technical educational institutions in the country. Simultaneously, these institutions have been directed to submit a written explanation within seven working days as to why their academic authorization should not be canceled or revoked.
On July 26, Sunday, details of the official order issued on July 23 by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board came to light. The order asked 443 institutions under the SSC (Vocational) curriculum and 178 institutions under the Dakhil (Vocational) curriculum to present their explanations.
According to the official notification, due to long-standing absence of student enrollments, a prior notice was published on the board's website asking why admission operations should not be suspended starting from the 2026-27 academic session and why academic approval should not be revoked by July 22. While a few institutions responded, the remaining listed institutions failed to provide any reply. Consequently, the board directed the unresponsive institutions to submit their written explanations within the next seven working days.
The order highlighted that as per the 'Private Technical Educational Institution Establishment, Academic Approval and Recognition Policy-2024', failure to fulfill specified conditions—including student enrollment, academic performance, infrastructure, faculty recruitment, managing committees, furniture, lab equipment, and library facilities—will empower the board to permanently cancel or withdraw the institutions' teaching authorizations upon government approval.
