A five-day Entrepreneurship Development Training Program has been launched through a joint initiative of the Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) at the University of Dhaka and the BSCIC Training Institute (BTI), the training wing of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), to foster entrepreneurial mindsets among university students, promote innovative business thinking, and create opportunities for self-employment.

The program was formally inaugurated on Sunday at the Professor Dr. Abdullah Faruk Multipurpose Hall of the University of Dhaka.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Dr. Md. Rakibul Haque, Chairman of the MIS Department. Mahmud Osman Imam attended as the chief guest, while Md. Shahiduzzaman and Dr. Md. Farhad Ahmed addressed the event as special guests.

Speakers emphasized that in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital economy, and technology-driven business environments, young people must move beyond a traditional job-seeking mindset. They stressed the importance of developing innovation, technological competence, and entrepreneurial capabilities from university life to become job creators rather than job seekers.

They noted that entrepreneurship-focused human resource development can play a significant role in accelerating economic growth, industrialization, and employment generation. Developing skilled and technology-oriented entrepreneurs at the university level would help expand small, medium, and innovation-driven enterprises, contributing to the development of a future smart economy.

The speakers further highlighted that creating new entrepreneurs, promoting innovation-based businesses, and building a skilled workforce would strengthen the foundation of the national economy. They said BSCIC is bringing students under practical entrepreneurship training programs to achieve these goals.

The training program, which will continue until June 11, will provide participants with hands-on knowledge and skills in business plan development, small and medium enterprise (SME) management, digital marketing and promotion strategies, financial planning, startup management, and other key aspects of successful entrepreneurship.

According to the organizers, this collaborative initiative between academia and an industrial development institution will play an important role in cultivating an entrepreneurial culture among students. It is also expected to contribute positively to Bangladesh’s economic development by encouraging technology-driven ventures, startups, and self-employment opportunities.
