The government has decided to introduce a major overhaul to the examination schedule of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams in 2027, aiming to eliminate the long-standing session backlog in the country’s education system and save students’ valuable time. Under the new plan, the examinations will be completed in December of that year.

The decision was announced by Education Minister Dr. Ehsanul Hoque Milan to journalists following a meeting held at the Secretariat on Saturday, April 25, regarding transfer policy guidelines for MPO-listed educational institution teachers and staff.

The minister said that there is currently a significant gap between the publication of SSC results and the admission process for the next level. After results are published in October, admission tests take place in January, creating nearly a one-year session backlog in students’ academic progression. This prolonged interruption disrupts academic continuity and increases mental pressure on students. To prevent this undesirable delay, the government has now decided to designate December as the examination month going forward.

Dr. Ehsanul Haque Milon further stated that the government’s primary objective is to ensure that the two-year curriculum is completed within the stipulated two years. The Ministry of Education is working to conduct examinations immediately after syllabus completion and to complete the admission process to higher levels in the shortest possible time. As part of the same plan, there are also intentions to advance the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations in 2027. The entire academic calendar is being redesigned to ensure that students at no level fall victim to session backlogs.

At the same time, the minister highlighted coordination with universities to reduce students’ reliance on coaching centers and to save time. He said discussions have already begun with higher education institutions so that admission processes can commence immediately after results are published. This initiative is expected to reduce session delays while also sparing students unnecessary time and financial expenditure on coaching centers. The minister expressed hope that these coordinated efforts will bring a positive transformation to the country’s education system.

Earlier in the meeting, discussions were also held regarding the transfer policy for MPO-listed teachers. The minister noted that, in response to long-standing demands from teachers, a transparent, modern, and time-appropriate transfer policy will be implemented soon, which will help enhance the dynamism of education administration. He added that these bold measures are part of a broader education reform initiative by the government.
