IT Training and Incubation Center Project Extended, Budget Increased

The government has extended the duration of the IT Training and Incubation Center Project under the Department of Information and Communication Technology until June 2026, while also approving a significant budget increase. The project’s cost has been raised by Tk 22,844.54 crore, bringing the total allocation to Tk 53,354.92 crore.

The decision was made at the first meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) under the BNP-led government, held on Monday, April 6, at the Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Tarique Rahman. Present at the session were Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam and ICT Secretary Kazi Anwar Hossain.

In total, five development projects worth Tk 4,834.3 crore were approved during the meeting. Among them:

  • The General Social Infrastructure Development Project-2 (GSIDP-2), run by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), saw its budget raised to Tk 1,450 crore, with completion targeted for June 2027.
  • The Gopalganj Dental College and Hospital (Second Revised) project’s cost was increased by Tk 26.49 crore, bringing the total to Tk 1,393.093 crore, with completion set for June 2026.
  • The project to modernize diagnostic imaging facilities at eight divisional medical college hospitals now has a revised budget of Tk 12,137.05 crore, with its deadline extended to June 2028.
  • Conversely, the Char Development and Settlement Project-4 (CDSP-4) had its budget reduced to Tk 307.186 crore.

According to meeting sources, of the total approved expenditure, Tk 3,908.4 crore will be financed by the government, while the remaining Tk 925.9 crore will come from project loans or grants.

Although 19 projects were on the agenda, discussions on eight projects were postponed. Planning Ministry spokesperson Jasim Uddin confirmed that these will be taken up in the next ECNEC meeting scheduled for next week.

This marks the ninth ECNEC meeting of the 2025–26 fiscal year, reflecting the government’s continued emphasis on infrastructure, healthcare, and ICT development.
