TVS Motorcycles to Be Assembled in Bangladesh with Tk 400cr Investment by PRAN-RFL Group
PRAN-RFL Group is set to assemble TVS motorcycles in Bangladesh with an investment of Tk 400 crore at the Habiganj Industrial Park, marking the group’s formal entry into the motorcycle and electric scooter market.
Under the initiative, the company will establish a manufacturing facility to produce TVS motorcycles and its own electric scooter brand, Rideo. The project is expected to generate employment for around 5,000 people directly and indirectly.
PRAN-RFL Group Managing Director Rathiendra Nath Pal (RN Pal) shared the plans with journalists on Tuesday, February 10, at the group’s head office in Badda, Dhaka, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between PRAN-RFL and TVS Motor Company. Previously, TVS motorcycles were marketed in Bangladesh by the Rangs Group.
“Motorcycles and bicycles are no longer just modes of transport for young people—they have become lifestyle products,” Pal said. “Drawing on our long experience in producing and marketing affordable, quality bicycles, we have entered the motorcycle and eco-friendly electric scooter segment. By keeping production costs as low as possible, we aim to market TVS motorcycles competitively.”
He added that PRAN-RFL plans to gradually localise the production of motorcycle components in Bangladesh to reduce costs and ensure long-term service support.
Pal also said Bangladesh, like India, China and Vietnam, holds strong potential for electric scooters. The company aims to offer a high-quality Rideo electric scooter at around Tk 50,000 by 2027.
According to company officials, TVS motorcycles may enter the local market through PRAN-RFL by the end of this month. Electric scooter production has already begun at the Habiganj facility, with an initial capacity of 500 units per month. Once full-scale production starts, monthly output is expected to reach 3,000 units.
RFL Group’s Chief Bike Business Officer Mahmudur Rahman said the company’s focus in the first year would be on ensuring stable and sustainable growth through the expansion of dealer and service networks and improved customer service.
To support the expansion of electric scooters, PRAN-RFL is also investing in charging infrastructure. With technical support from Japanese technology-based startup Glafit Bangladesh Limited, a nationwide charging network will be developed.
Pal noted that producing key motorcycle components—such as drive chains, seats, wheels and batteries—locally is feasible, which would help ensure better quality at lower costs.
PRAN-RFL aims to make its environmentally friendly Rideo electric scooter widely accessible. While the current price stands at Tk 55,000, the company plans to reduce it to Tk 45,000.
Regarding dealership operations, Pal said strong-performing dealers would receive additional support, while underperforming dealers could be replaced. New dealers may also be appointed. Existing TVS customers will continue to receive full service, including warranty and free servicing, under the new arrangement.
“We want to restore TVS as a leading motorcycle brand in Bangladesh,” he said.
