X Experiments with Embedded E-commerce Ads
X (formerly Twitter) is testing a new advertising format that displays links to related products directly alongside a user’s post. The feature was recently spotted in a post by a user in Europe, according to a report by TechCrunch.
In a post stating that Starlink’s satellite service is working well in Portugal, a recommendation labeled “Get Starlink” appeared below the content. Clicking the link redirects users to the Starlink website.
X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, confirmed the test and commented, “We are trying to create an advertising product that does not feel like an advertisement.”
A spokesperson for X said that the new format is currently available to a limited number of users. The company will decide whether to expand it in the future after evaluating user feedback and the effectiveness of the advertisements.
Recently, X also introduced a “Paid Partnership” label for creators, which helps them comply with advertising rules on social media. Instead of using hashtags such as “#ad” or “#paidpartnership,” creators can now apply this label directly to their posts.
It is expected that if the new advertising format works alongside the Paid Partnership label, X could attract more marketers and creators. This may strengthen the platform’s competitive position against platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
X has also recently relaunched its creator subscription feature and announced that its chatbot Grok is now capable of reading long-form content (Articles) on the platform.
