Huawei has extended digital connectivity to nearly 17 crore people in remote areas across more than 80 countries, surpassing its 2022 commitment under the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) ‘Partner-to-Connect’ (P2C) Digital Coalition.

This information was disclosed in a press release sent on 4 March, Wednesday, by Huawei Bangladesh.

The announcement was made by Huawei ICT BG CEO Yang Chaobin at Huawei’s “Tech Cares Forum” held during the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona. Notably, while the company had initially aimed to connect 12 crore people by 2025, it achieved this milestone a full year ahead of schedule.

At the forum, Yang Chaobin highlighted that despite rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), digital inequality remains a significant challenge. He noted, “High-speed digital networks and robust computing capabilities are essential for an inclusive and sustainable AI era.” He further explained that such connectivity would improve access to healthcare, education, and financial services for underserved populations.

Praising Huawei’s achievement, ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau Director Cosmas Zavazava stated that innovative business models and sustainable investments are critical to bridging the digital divide. He lauded Huawei’s commitment to universal and meaningful connectivity.

Huawei’s digital inclusion strategy rests on two key pillars—inclusive connectivity and digital skills enhancement. To address skill gaps, initiatives such as ‘Skills on Wheels’ have already trained over 1,30,000 people across 21 countries.

Highlighting rural network innovation, Huawei emphasized the success of its ‘RuralCow’ solution, launched in November 2025. Developed with support from MTN Nigeria, this system can deliver network access even to small villages with just 1,500 residents.

Looking ahead, Huawei reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating digital empowerment and fostering a more equitable digital world through continued collaboration with governments and international organizations.
