The full verdict sentencing ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death in a crimes against humanity case linked to last year’s July mass uprising has been published. The verdict against former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in the same case has also been released.

The 457-page verdict was published on Tuesday, January 13, on the website of the Office of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal.

Earlier, on November 17 last year, a three-member bench of International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mojumder, handed down death sentences to Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

According to case proceedings, the prosecution submitted formal charges against Sheikh Hasina and two others on June 1. The chargesheet contained a total of five allegations, which were formally framed by the tribunal on July 10.

The charges include allegations of provocative remarks made by Sheikh Hasina at a press conference at Ganabhaban on July 14; issuing directives to suppress protesters using helicopters, drones, and lethal weapons; the killing of student Abu Sayeed of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur; the killing of six protesters in the Chankharpul area of the capital; and the killing of six people in Ashulia.

Among those convicted, Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal remain absconding. Former Inspector General of Police Mamun is the only accused currently in custody. On the day charges were framed, he admitted involvement in crimes against humanity during the mass uprising and applied to become a state witness.
