Although major changes to National Identity Cards (NID) remain suspended ahead of the upcoming national election, limited corrections—including voter name, parents’ names, occupation, date of birth, voter address, and photograph—will continue to be processed, Election Commission (EC) officials have said.

EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed briefed journalists at the Election Commission headquarters on Monday, 1 December, outlining the temporary restrictions.

He said seven major NID corrections will remain suspended until the voter list is finalized. These services may resume once the final voter roll is published.

Meanwhile, several correction services remain available to citizens. Applications can still be submitted for changes related to spelling of names, spouse’s name, marital status, educational qualifications, religion (where applicable), and telephone number—particularly to resolve issues tied to income tax return filings.

The EC Secretary also confirmed that new NID registrations are ongoing and will continue uninterrupted. However, a specific cut-off date has been set for inclusion in the upcoming voter list. Only those who turned 18 and registered by 31 October will be included. Anyone reaching 18 after the 31 October cut-off will not be part of this voter roll.

He added that the registration deadline for expatriates under the Out-of-Country Voting (OCV) system has been extended from 18 December to midnight on 25 December.
