Anthropic Advances to India: AI Firm to Open First Office in Bengaluru
Artificial intelligence company Anthropic, backed by Google and Amazon, is set to open its first office in India next year, aiming to capitalize on the country’s rapidly growing demand for AI tools, according to a report by Reuters.
India’s swift adoption of AI has been driven by increased corporate investment in technology, a growing pool of skilled professionals, and heightened investor interest. With nearly one billion internet users, the country has become a key battleground for global AI companies.
Anthropic’s chatbot Claude—a rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and widely recognized for its coding capabilities—has already made India the company’s second-largest market. The company currently offers both free and paid versions of Claude in India, although pricing in local currency has yet to be introduced.
Anthropic’s co-founder and CEO, Dario Amodei, is expected to meet with government officials and corporate partners in India this week. The new office will be established in Bengaluru, the nation’s technology capital, and is scheduled to begin operations in early 2026.
The company stated that this will be its second office in the Asia-Pacific region, following Tokyo. Meanwhile, Microsoft-backed OpenAI is also planning to open an office in New Delhi by 2025.
