Fifteen members of the Bangladesh ICT Journalists Forum (BIJF), working across science, ICT, and telecom media, recently received hands-on training in applying artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism. The workshop demonstrated how to use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Google AI Studio to rapidly and accurately structure news content, enhance quality, collect and verify SEO-friendly supportive information, and generate new ideas from Google Trends. Participants were also taught how to craft effective prompts and implement humanized AI content transformations.

The special workshop, titled AI in Journalism, was held on Saturday, September 27, in Gulshan, Dhaka, and organized by the Bangladesh ICT and Innovation Network (BIN) Trust, a private platform focused on skill development for young professionals.

Serving as the trainer, Ariful Islam Arman, former organizational secretary of BIJF and Head of New Media Initiatives at Dhaka Post, highlighted practical AI applications in journalism and provided participants with hands-on guidance.

At the workshop inauguration, BIJF President Hitler A. Halim stated, “The application of AI in journalism is opening doors to new possibilities. Such training not only enhances journalists’ skills but also helps apply technology effectively in practical work. We plan to organize more workshops on emerging technologies in the future.” He thanked BIN Trust for initiating the program.

BIN Trust Chairman and former BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir added, “In this era of information technology, academic qualifications alone are no longer sufficient. Acquiring technology-based skills is essential. In fast-evolving fields like journalism, mastering AI is the key to staying relevant. Our journalists must learn to optimally utilize technology in pace with the times.

Participants noted that AI is revolutionizing journalism globally. From news gathering, data analysis, and verification to content creation and image/video processing, AI is adding new dimensions at every stage of news production. Tools like ChatGPT and Gemini not only generate content but also introduce fresh perspectives to journalistic workflows.

In Bangladesh, the adoption of AI in journalism is rapidly increasing. Participants expressed that such workshops would boost their confidence to meet future challenges in the field.

Organizers confirmed that workshops like AI in Journalism will be regularly conducted to develop journalists’ skills. These programs aim not only to impart technical knowledge but also to prepare journalists for the future of the profession through practical experience and knowledge exchange.
