Indonesia Launches Nusantara Lima (N-5) Satellite to Boost Broadband

Indonesia has successfully launched the Nusantara Lima (N-5) satellite, designed to strengthen internet services in the country’s remote and underserved regions.

The satellite is owned by PT Satelit Nusantara Lima, a subsidiary of PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara, and was developed in collaboration with Boeing Satellite Systems, Hughes Network Systems, and SpaceX, according to OpenGov Asia.

On September 10, 2025, the satellite was carried into orbit aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, USA. It will operate at 113 degrees East longitude, providing high-speed internet across the Indonesian archipelago with a capacity of 160 Gbps.

Authorities stated that this initiative will expand opportunities for online education, healthcare, and digital business in rural and isolated areas.

Prior to the N-5, Indonesia had launched the Palapa A1, Nusantara Satu, and Satria-1 satellites, marking another step forward in the nation’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital connectivity.
