First Ever Science Talk On AI Awareness Held in Dhaka
A science lecture titled “AI Decoded: Artificial Intelligence and Our Present and Future” was held on Thursday, 26 June at the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in Dhaka’s Bangla Motor. The interactive session explored various aspects of artificial intelligence, its role in modern society, and its potential impact on the future.
Following the main lecture, a lively Q&A session engaged the audience with questions such as “Will AI destroy everything in the future?”, “Will AI take away human jobs?”, “What is the current state of AI research in Bangladesh?”, and “How can one begin working with AI?”. These were addressed by the two keynote speakers: Professor B M Mainul Hossain and Mohammad Oli Ahad.
The program also featured a quiz competition open to all attendees. Winners of the quiz received attractive prizes presented by the event’s guests, with a total of eleven individuals being awarded.
Notable guest speakers at the event included renowned magician Jewel Aich and popular science communicator Asif, among others.
Earlier in the session, Professor B M Mainul Hossain—leader of the Bangladesh AI Olympiad team and Director of the Institute of Information Technology at the University of Dhaka—delivered the keynote address, discussing how AI works, how it can be leveraged, and where individuals can access free resources to learn about it. He remarked, “For the first time, we are witnessing an artificial creation that is truly useful. Everyone can benefit from it. Just like humans, AI learns from its mistakes.”
Moderated by Azad, the event also featured insights from Mohammad Oli Ahad, founder of Intelligent Machines Limited and Dhaka AI Lab. He stated, “A new world awaits us. The page of AI is still blank—this is the time to write our names in it. Everyone can start from where they are. Tasks once exclusive to big corporations are now within your reach.”
The event was presided over by Abdul Quayum, Editor of Bigganchinta.
