Campus Confrontation: KUET Students Defy Ban, Gather at Gate
Defying official restrictions, students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) began gathering at the university gate after 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 13. As students occupied the entrance, police were deployed inside the campus premises, leading to a tense and uncertain atmosphere in the surrounding area.
According to earlier announcements made on Saturday night, students had declared their intention to re-enter the closed campus. Following that declaration, they began assembling in front of the gate on Sunday afternoon in an attempt to access the residential halls. However, the students refrained from speaking to the media or disclosing further details about their motives.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Khan Jahan Ali Police Station, Kabir Hossain, stated, “The university administration has informed us about a plan circulating on social media to incite unrest on the KUET campus. We are monitoring the situation closely.” He further added that additional police forces have been deployed outside the university in the interest of maintaining security.
As of now, the university zone remains under close surveillance, with a noticeable police presence and a sense of unease prevailing among those nearby.
