Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb Urges to Postpone ‘March for Gaza’ by a Week

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology), has requested the postponement of the upcoming 'March for Gaza' by a week, citing potential disruptions to a major international investment summit currently underway in Dhaka.

In a Facebook post published early Wednesday (April 9), Taiyeb highlighted the overlap between the scheduled protest and the Bangladesh Investment Summit, whose main sessions are taking place on April 9 and 10. More than 600 direct investors from over 50 countries are presently in Bangladesh to attend the summit.

According to his post, the visiting delegates are expected to tour various enterprises, including companies located in EPZs, special EPZs, hi-tech parks, and local startups on April 11, 12, and 13. Taiyeb wrote, “The ‘March for Gaza’, protesting the ethnic cleansing and genocide by Israeli forces, is scheduled for Saturday, April 12. As Palestine holds a deeply emotional place in our hearts, I believe this march will draw hundreds of thousands of people. We deeply respect the noble intent behind this protest rally.”

He continued, “However, I would like to humbly point out that our collective protest is meant to speak to international political audiences—not to affect Bangladesh’s domestic economic landscape.”

In light of the investment summit and the intensive schedules of the visiting delegates, he appealed to the organizers to consider rescheduling the march for one week later. “I humbly request the organizers to reflect on whether the March for Gaza could be moved from April 12 to a date one week later. Within a week, the issue of Palestine will not fade,” he wrote.

He further noted that the Chief Adviser has already condemned the Israeli atrocities. “It is extremely important to protest against injustice,” he wrote, “but it is also vital to foster a conducive environment for startups, business, and investment in our country. May Palestine be free. May the Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025 be a success.”
