Kiran Rao Speaks on the Evolution of OTT at Indian Screenwriters Conference

Renowned Bollywood director Kiran Rao, known for Laapataa Ladies, openly discussed the state of OTT films and series at the Indian Screenwriters Conference, organized by the Screen Writers Association of India.
Reflecting on the evolution of OTT platforms in India, Rao remarked, "When OTT began in India over a decade ago, people were highly independent and creative. However, over time, other factors have taken precedence. OTT was like the golden egg. Everyone could perhaps realize their dreams. But what we see on India's OTT platforms today is not much different from what is released in cinemas. This medium holds great promise and has many stories to tell. I don’t know how many have been able to achieve that. Like everything else, OTT had a golden era. But I am not sure what comes next. There is still much to be done in India’s OTT space."
Her remarks highlight the need for greater creative exploration and differentiation in India's OTT landscape, as the industry continues to evolve.
