News bulletins or talk shows cannot be staged online

News bulletins or talk shows cannot be organized online or in online newspapers, said the Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud. He said, short video clips can go with online news, but by law, news bulletins or talk shows cannot be staged. He made the remarks at a discussion with leaders of the Bangladesh Editors' Forum at the Information and Broadcasting Ministry's meeting room at the Secretariat on Sunday (July 3rd). The Forum Member Secretary Faruk Ahmed Talukder and Advisors including Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, Sharif Sahabuddin, Belayet Hossain took part in the discussion. Among members Dulal Ahmed Chowdhury, Mir Moniruzzaman, Mofizur Rahman Khan Babu, Rimon Mahfuz, Nazmul Alam Tawfiq, Jagdish Chandra expressed their views. This information has been informed in a press release of the Ministry of Information. The Information and Broadcasting Minister said, an initiative has been taken to create a database of journalists working in the country. If this is the case, it will be possible to understand who is on the list as a journalist and who is not. It will be difficult for everyone to identify as a journalist. "I will not say that I will be able to solve all the problems, but I do not lack sincerity," said the minister. “Many problems have already been solved with your cooperation, the rest will be solved as well”, he added. Adviser of the forum Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said, "We have to work in the spirit of liberation war while maintaining the principles and ethics of journalism." Rafiqul Islam Ratan, convener of the forum, said that according to the Printing Presses and Publications Act, there is no scope to broadcast talk shows or news bulletins in online portals. The leaders of the forum then handed over a 10-points Letter of Memorandum to stop giving government advertisements and supplements in nominal and irregular newspapers and cancel media listing, pay arrears of advertisement bills, adjust the number of advertisements in newspapers, not giving the responsibility of newspaper editor to amateur journalists, provide VIP status to members of editorial forum and include in various committees and delegating the power of declaration of the newspaper to the Ministry of Information.
