State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam has emphasized expanding green financing and eco-friendly technology integration to protect ecosystems and foster sustainable development. He made the observations on Sunday (October 25, 2026) during an exchange meeting with Bangladeshi expatriates and business leaders in Hong Kong, where he also inaugurated the 'Sundarbans Lounge' at the Bangladesh Consulate.

Speaking at the event, the State Minister reiterated the government's commitment to pollution control, forest preservation, and expanding renewable energy through green financing and nature-based technological solutions. He is currently visiting Hong Kong to attend the international 'Eco Expo Asia 2026' and the 'Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference'. His itinerary also includes attending a green technology forum and inspecting sustainable industrial facilities in Hunan Province, China.

Highlighting ongoing environmental initiatives, the meeting noted that 35.4 million trees have been planted across the country with structured monitoring. Efforts are underway to curb illegal hill cutting, recover encroached forest land, and mitigate industrial discharge across 424 pollution points along the Buriganga, Turag, and Dhaleshwari rivers. The State Minister also stressed substituting traditional bricks with modern eco-friendly concrete blocks.

Discussions during the event covered boosting operational efficiency at Mongla Port, expanding solar power adoption, leveraging carbon credits, and promoting nationwide cleanliness initiatives. Bangladesh Consul General in Hong Kong Dr. Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur and other consulate officials attended the meeting.
