DHAKA: Evaluating over 23,000 nationwide entries, a distinguished four-member jury comprising prominent Bangladeshi photographers and visual storytellers has finalized the winning captures for the 'OPPO Photography Contest 2026'. Presented by OPPO Reno15 Series 5G in strategic collaboration with the Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, the competition provided a platform for aspiring shutterbugs to document the world through smartphone optics.

On Thursday, September 10, Oppo Bangladesh shared this information in a press release.

Organized around the theme 'Every Photo Tells a Story' to mark World Photography Day, the competition engaged young creatives across five thematic categories: Portrait, Nature & Wildlife, Street & Architecture, Low Light, and Heritage & Culture. Rather than focusing solely on technical sharpness, the adjudication parameters prioritized narrative resonance, compositional originality, visual emotion, and the photographer’s ability to articulate an authentic perspective.

T

he expert jury panel featured Khandaker Tanveer Murad, Associate Professor and Head of the Photography Department at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute; Shafiqul Alam Kiran, seasoned documentary photographer with over 25 years of international acclaim; award-winning photojournalist K. M. Asad; and photographer Razowana Chowdhury Zinnia.

Reflecting on the curation process, Khandaker Tanveer Murad stated that photography essentially uncovers the extraordinary within ordinary moments. Documentarian Shafiqul Alam Kiran emphasized that the most powerful frames are those that carry an enduring narrative message, while K. M. Asad noted the challenging task of shortlisting standouts given the high baseline quality across the thousands of submissions.

The jury concluded that a winning photograph transcends rigid technical formulas; its true success lies in compelling the viewer to pause and emotionally connect with the visual narrative. The curated winning works reflect how mobile imaging technology continues to democratize storytelling across Bangladesh.
