Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) has achieved a major milestone in the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system at Padma Bridge, with total cashless toll collection exceeding Tk 100.82 million and the number of registered vehicles reaching 1,008 as of July 26, 2026.

Since the launch of the service, 56,406 vehicles have crossed the bridge using the ETC system without manual toll payment, reflecting growing public confidence in the country's digital tolling initiative.

The authority said the initiative is part of the government's broader plan to replace manual toll collection with a unified, nationwide cashless digital tolling system across major bridges, expressways and tunnels.

Bridge Division Secretary and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Mohammad Abdur Rouf, described the milestone as a significant step toward building a technology-driven and cashless road transport ecosystem.

Motorists can register through the D-Toll option in supported mobile financial service apps—including TAP, bKash, Nagad and Upay—as well as selected commercial bank applications. After completing vehicle registration and balance top-up, users only need a BRTA-approved RFID tag verification at the Mawa Toll Plaza to activate the service.

Vehicles using the ETC lane can pass the toll plaza at speeds of up to 60 km/h without stopping, reducing waiting time, easing congestion during peak travel seasons and lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

According to the authority, the Padma Bridge ETC model is expected to serve as the foundation for expanding cashless toll collection to other key transport infrastructure projects across Bangladesh.
