PM Tarique Rahman Meets Axiata and AirAsia Chiefs in Malaysia to Discuss Investment Opportunities
During his visit to Malaysia, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held separate meetings with the heads of Axiata Group and AirAsia Group. The discussions focused on potential investments in Bangladesh’s telecommunications, ICT and aviation sectors.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held separate courtesy meetings with the heads of two leading Malaysian business groups to discuss potential investments in Bangladesh’s information technology, telecommunications and aviation sectors.
According to Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Swadhin, the meetings took place on Monday (June 22) at the Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur in Kuala Lumpur.
The first meeting was held with Nik Rizal Kamil Nik Ibrahim Tamil, chief executive officer of Axiata Group. Discussions focused on the development of Bangladesh’s telecommunications sector, expansion of digital infrastructure and the accelerated rollout of 5G services in the country.
During the meeting, the Axiata chief expressed appreciation for Bangladesh’s investment-friendly and sustainable budget framework and thanked the prime minister for the government’s policy initiatives.
Shortly afterward, Prime Minister Rahman met with Bo Lingam, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Group.
The AirAsia chief praised the growth potential of Bangladesh’s aviation sector and conveyed the company’s interest in expanding its business operations and making fresh investments in aviation infrastructure in the country. The prime minister welcomed the interest and assured full government support for prospective investments.
The meetings are being viewed as a positive step toward attracting greater foreign investment in Bangladesh’s telecommunications, technology and aviation sectors.
