Zubaida Rahman, Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF) and a renowned cardiologist, has called on students, researchers, and educators to develop timely scientific innovations to address the country's contemporary challenges.
She made the remarks on Wednesday while inaugurating ZRF’s month-long tree plantation campaign by planting a neem sapling at the historic Curzon Hall premises of University of Dhaka, marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Ziaur Rahman.
As part of the central programme, simultaneous tree plantation activities were also launched at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University and Sylhet Agricultural University.
Following the plantation programme, Dr. Rahman officially inaugurated the “Future Scientists Search – Science Fair 2026” at the Central Gallery of the Department of Botany, University of Dhaka.
In her opening remarks, she paid tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and the late Khaleda Zia, emphasizing that tree plantation should not be viewed as a routine ceremonial activity. Instead, she said, it should evolve into a nationwide “green revolution” driven by active public participation to promote economic, social, and intergenerational development.
Highlighting the importance of scientific advancement, Dr. Rahman expressed confidence in the country's younger generation and noted that innovation and healthy competition in fields such as medicine, botany, physics, chemistry, and information technology can help solve many of Bangladesh’s complex challenges.
She stressed that teachers and students possess the capability to develop practical and science-based solutions to national problems, adding that new discoveries and innovations could significantly improve people's lives and contribute to building a modern and developed Bangladesh.
Dr. Rahman also congratulated the organizers and wished success for the “Future Scientists Search” competition.
The programme was chaired by Morshed Hasan Khan, Acting Executive Director of ZRF, and moderated by Professor Lutfur Rahman, convener of the initiative.
Among the special guests were Professor AFM Yusuf Haider, ABM Obaidul Islam, Mostafa Aziz Sumon, and agriculturist Boyjar Rahman.
The event was attended by academics, researchers, students, university officials, and science enthusiasts from various institutions.
