Artemis-2 Astronauts Face Software Snags with Outlook in Space

Astronauts on NASA’s Artemis-2 mission have encountered one of space’s most unexpected challenges—sending emails using Microsoft Outlook. On the Orion spacecraft, two instances of Outlook were running on the Personal Computing Device (PCD), but neither was functioning properly.

According to reports, there were also issues with the ‘Optimus’ software. Mission commander Reid Wiseman requested Mission Control to take remote access and fix both Outlook and Optimus. Shortly afterward, Mission Control confirmed that the problem had been resolved. However, Outlook would continue to display ‘offline,’ which was considered normal.

Earlier, the spacecraft had also experienced a malfunction in its toilet system, where a fan became jammed. NASA spokesperson Gary Jordan stated that repair instructions were provided from the control room on Earth. A backup system is in place, ensuring there is no risk of floating waste.

As part of this decade-long mission, the astronauts will orbit the Moon for 10 days before returning to Earth.

Microsoft and NASA have not made any comments regarding the issue.
