UIITS Teams Triumph in Halt Prize Campus Grand Finale
The campus round grand finale of Halt Prize, the world’s largest student-centered social entrepreneurship competition often referred to as the “Nobel Prize for Students,” was held at the Ratnagarb Tahmina Rahman Multipurpose Hall of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UIITS). After a closely contested competition, the team ‘UIITS Halt_Free Fall’ was crowned campus champion. The ‘UIITS Halt_Peltiers’ team secured the first runner-up position, while ‘UIITS_Scrap Venture’ was selected as the second runner-up.
The final round was judged by Kazi Akib Anaf, Manager (Growth and Development) at the Center for Entrepreneurship Development, BRAC University; Nargis Akhtar, HR Business Partner and Employee Experience Lead at Coats Bangladesh; and Aparajita Barua, HR Director at Infinitibit, Groupbit.
Following the presentation contest, a workshop titled “Degree to Direction: Age of AI, Data, and Competition in Career Readiness” was organized by NextJobz Limited. The keynote address was delivered by Md. Mehnazuddin Rupom, Head of HR and Admin at Aman Bangladesh Limited.
Launched in 2009 by Halt International Business School in partnership with the United Nations, this international competition invites university students to present profitable and impactful business initiatives addressing global social and environmental challenges. At the UIITS campus round, participating teams impressed the judges with innovative and socially responsible business ideas.
The grand finale awards ceremony on 8 February, Sunday, was attended by UIITS Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abu Hasan Bhuiya as the chief guest. Special guests included UIITS Treasurer Professor Dr. Siraj Uddin Ahmed. The program was chaired by UIITS IQAC Director and UIITS Innovation Hub focal point Engineer Md. Safayet Hossain. Also present as a special guest was NextJobz Limited Chief Business Officer Mr. Shoaeb Hasan, who highlighted the importance of competitions like Halt Prize in fostering innovation, leadership, and social responsibility among students.
The winning teams from the campus round will now have the opportunity to participate at regional and global levels of Halt Prize, competing with teams from universities worldwide to present sustainable and effective solutions.
