"Library is a powerful vehicle for social development: CUET VC"
Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), has stated that a library is not merely a place for storing books but a powerful vehicle for societal development. A nation is as developed and advanced as its library is enriched. The role of libraries is immense as the holder and nurturer of a nation's intellect, mind, history, heritage, and culture. Libraries play a far-reaching and long-lasting role in spreading the light of knowledge among people from all walks of life.
He made these remarks as the Chief Guest at the discussion meeting on "National Library Day—2026" and the workshop on "Online SDI Service and Online Membership System in Central Library", organised by the Central Library in the Academic Council Room of CUET on Thursday, February 5th.
Professor Dr. Asiful Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Kausar, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, were present as special guests. Mr. Abdul Aziz Abir, a student from the CSE department of CUET, also spoke. The event was presided over by Chief Librarian Mr. Md. Abdul Khaleque Sarkar, and Deputy Librarian Mr. Moha. Nasiruzzaman delivered the welcome address. Assistant Librarian Ms. Sharmin Sultana Toma moderated the event.
Meanwhile, a colourful rally was organised on the occasion of "National Library Day—2026". In the afternoon, Chief Librarian Mr. Md. Abdul Khaleque Sarkar presented a presentation on the Online SDI Service and Online Membership System in Central Library.
