Govt Gathers Status of Walton Laptops in Primary Schools
The Directorate of Primary Education has issued a letter seeking updated information on the current condition of Walton laptops distributed to government primary schools across the country.
The initiative aims to collect and update warranty-related information. District Primary Education Officers have been instructed to submit the required data in soft-copy Excel format by 15 January.
According to sources, the Directorate issued the letter after receiving correspondence from Walton Hi-Tech Industries, as fewer than two percent of schools reportedly lodged complaints even after the warranty period expired.
The letter states that under the Fourth Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP-4), Walton laptops distributed to government primary schools in 2023 and 2025 carry a three-year warranty. If any of the distributed laptops become non-functional, they must be repaired urgently through Walton service centres. Schools with faulty Walton laptops are required to submit consolidated information for all upazilas in Excel format by 15 January and email it to [email protected].
The required information includes division, district, upazila, school code as per IPEMIS, name of the institution or school, and remarks.
Commenting on the matter, Liaqat Ali, Additional Managing Director of Walton Digi-Tech Industries, said that the company has received very few complaints regarding the laptops provided. “As the warranty period has expired, we had earlier sent a letter to the ministry. If any issues arise now, we are ready to address them,” he said. He also added that Walton laptops have performed well compared to foreign brands in this regard.
