Cyber Cell for Curbing Misinformation

The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has established a special cell to prevent false information, misleading content, and rumors ahead of the upcoming national elections. The unit will operate continuously, monitoring online platforms and social media, verifying information, and ensuring its authenticity through the NCSA 24/7 helpline and four separate email addresses. The toll-free helpline number is 333 (8).

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has urged citizens to submit complaints regarding online gambling, false information, rumors, fake profiles, obscene or harmful content, online harassment, and cyberattacks on critical information infrastructure (CII) through the designated email addresses.

According to sources, to expedite public assistance in preventing cybercrime, the NCSA will coordinate with the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, Press Information Bangladesh (PIB), Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), and law enforcement agencies.

The agency has also requested the public to verify the source before sharing any information or content on social media and to refrain from spreading false or misleading information, photographs, and videos.

Earlier, on November 9, the NCSA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Information and Communication Technology to implement field-level cyber security assistance services, manage cyber incidents, conduct cyber awareness programs, and enhance cyber security skills.
