Samsung Slammed with $445.5 Million in U.S. Patent Suit
A federal jury in the U.S. state of Texas has ruled that Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. infringed on four patents related to 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi communication technologies. As a result, the company has been ordered to pay approximately $445.5 million in damages to the patent owner, Collision Communications, according to a Reuters report.
The jury in the Marshall court determined that Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones, laptops, and other wireless devices violated the patents in question. In recent years, the same court has issued several high-value patent rulings against Samsung.
Collision Communications, based in Peterborough, New Hampshire, filed the lawsuit against Samsung in 2023, citing technology derived from research conducted by U.S. defense contractor BAE Systems. However, BAE Systems is not a party to the case.
Samsung has denied the allegations, asserting that the patents involved are “invalid and unenforceable.”
