Slack Strengthens Synergy with Smarter AI Upgrades
Developers and enterprises can now build secure, context-aware AI apps and agents directly from workplace conversation data, thanks to the latest upgrade to Slack, Salesforce’s productivity and collaboration platform. The update introduces Real-Time Search (RTS) API, Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, and new developer tools — enabling AI systems to access customer-owned Slack data safely and with proper authorization.
As a result, AI agents can now deliver precise, relevant, and customized responses, boosting both productivity and team efficiency.
Leading technology companies such as Anthropic, Google, Perplexity, Writer, Dropbox, Notion, Cognition Labs, Vercel, and Cursor have already started developing AI apps and agents using Slack. These apps are now available on the Slack Marketplace for seamless daily use. Moreover, they help unify disconnected systems and reduce time wasted switching between apps.
Globally, over 200,000 SaaS providers exist, with organizations typically using more than 1,000 SaaS apps each. This fragmented usage reduces productivity by about 40%, and nearly half of purchased SaaS licenses go unused. Slack’s goal is to optimize returns on the remaining 98% of investments while utilizing only 2% of IT budgets.
Reports suggest that organizations using Slack can securely harness unstructured team conversation data, saving an average of 97 minutes per user each week. When combining conversational data with tools like Agentforce, Salesforce, or Workday, companies make decisions 37% faster and deliver customer service 36% more efficiently. Businesses that have effectively integrated AI see up to three times higher per-employee profitability compared to those that have not. Each week, over 1.7 million apps are used within Slack, and 95% of users believe Slack integrations enhance their workflow effectiveness.
Slack CEO Denise Dresser stated, “The future of work is undoubtedly agentic, and AI’s success depends on how seamlessly it integrates into people’s workflows. Our latest innovations create a safe, data-rich environment that helps AI agents become trusted collaborators. We’ve opened a direct path for our customers and partners to build powerful AI solutions right within Slack — accelerating work, enhancing smart tool usage, and driving productivity.”
The RTS API provides secure, real-time access to conversations, threads, files, and channels without bulk data downloads, ensuring the delivery of specific, relevant insights. Meanwhile, the MCP Server enables AI models, apps, and agents to locate contextual information and deliver quality output, enhancing reliability and performance. Together, these systems empower developers to build smarter, safer agents capable of automating complex workflows and generating more accurate results.
Through Slack Work Objects, developers can now embed app data directly into conversations — offering previews of files, images, and documents. Users can perform tasks such as managing Asana assignments without leaving Slack.
Slack remains a central hub for marketplace partner integrations, providing unified security, control, and distribution for third-party apps and agents. Companies like Anthropic, Google, Dropbox, Perplexity, and Notion are already adopting the new tools.
Maryam Gholami of Google Cloud commented, “The connection between Google AgentSpace and Slack’s RTS API ensures seamless data flow, allowing users to gain deeper insights either by using Slack with AgentSpace agents or AgentSpace powered by live Slack data.”
The RTS API and MCP Server are currently in beta and expected to be publicly available to all customers by early 2026. Third-party AI agents utilizing these features are already accessible through the Slack Marketplace. Slack Work Objects will open to all developers by the end of October, while the new agentic developer tools are now live.
