The Alumni Association of Anthropology, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), has elected its 5th executive committee. For the first time, the election was held in a hybrid format, combining both online and offline voting, enabling former students to choose their representatives directly.

In the newly formed committee, Associate Professor Dr. Shahjahan Mia has been elected as President, while Mosharraf Hossain Palash has been chosen as General Secretary.

Other office bearers include Vice Presidents Dr. Murshid Hasan Swapan, Monirul Islam Kallol, and Uttam Chandra Das; Joint Secretaries Abu Taher Toton, Tanmoy Sarker, and Sultan Mahmud Tanna; Organizing Secretary Bulbul Ahmed; Assistant Organizing Secretary Dipta Roy; Finance Secretary Farzana Bhuiyan; Cultural Secretary Munibur Rahman Moni; Office Secretary Mithun Goswami; Assistant Office Secretary Hasan Thakur; Publication Secretary Mohammad Shariful Alam Bhuiyan; Publicity Secretary Amit Ratan Deb; Assistant Publicity Secretary Mehedi Hasan; Education and Research Secretary Dr. Rajib Mamun; and Assistant Education and Research Secretary Taspia Mohammad Merina.

The election was overseen by Chief Election Commissioner Professor A.K.M. Majaharul Islam of SUST’s Department of Anthropology, with Associate Professor Rabiul Alam of Rajshahi University and Professor A.F.M. Zakaria of SUST serving as Election Commissioners.

According to a press release from the association, the annual general meeting (AGM) took place on August 29. Registered members, outgoing President Dr. Sanjay Krishna Biswas, and Department Head Professor Mokhlesur Rahman were present. Following the AGM, the election was conducted in a festive and peaceful environment.

The association, established in 2014, had previously formed its four committees through selection rather than election. To ensure participation of members residing both at home and abroad, voting was arranged via both online and offline modes, with 97 percent of eligible voters casting their ballots.
