To reduce patient hardship and avoid crowding, Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has launched an online appointment service for its Department of Radiology and Imaging. Patients no longer need to arrive early and wait in line for CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, X-rays, or contrast X-rays.

The BMU ICT Cell explained that patients can first visit the university website, click on the appointment menu, select “For Radiology and Imaging,” complete the appointment form, and schedule examinations as advised by their doctor. Appointments can be booked up to three working days in advance.

The online service was inaugurated on Thursday, August 14, on the fourth floor of the hospital’s F Block by BMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam.

BMU Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahreen Akhtar was the special guest at the ceremony. The event was conducted by BMU Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam and presided over by the Chairman of the Radiology and Imaging Department, Professor Dr. Habiba Khatun. The welcome address was delivered by ICT Cell Director Professor Dr. AKM Akhtaruzzaman.

Among the attendees were faculty, doctors, and residents, including Professors Dr. Md. Moinul Ahsan, Dr. Syeda Nazli Mostafa; Associate Professors Dr. Mahmud Hasan Mostafa Kamal, Dr. ASM Shahidul Hossain (Babu), Dr. Akhm Anwar Hossain, Dr. Morsheda Begum, Dr. Md. Ali Kabir, Dr. Jereen Sultana Deepa, Dr. Tahera Sultana, Dr. Anindita Dutta, Dr. Shahnaz Chowdhury; and Assistant Professors Dr. Md. Menhajul Islam, Dr. Selina Rahman.

Professor Dr. Habiba Khatun noted, “Currently, patients can book online appointments for 50 percent of all tests in the Radiology and Imaging Department. Gradually, this will be increased to 100 percent based on patient convenience.”

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam emphasized: “The Radiology and Imaging Department must move forward in step with technology. This department has the highest potential for applying state-of-the-art technologies. By leveraging technology, the Radiology Department should aim to be number one. The expansion opportunities here are significant, and implementing them will benefit patients. The online appointment service will reduce patient hardship and prevent some unwanted or unethical issues arising during tests.”

Dr. Nahreen Akhtar added, “BMU’s three primary missions are research, education, and medical service. As part of patient care, collecting tickets and receipts for examinations often requires patients to wait in long queues. To address this problem and provide relief to patients, BMU’s current administration has launched and strengthened the online service system.”
