Robi Rolls Out Taka Roaming for Travelers Abroad

Bangladeshi travelers can now use Robi and Airtel roaming services in over 70 countries and pay directly in Bangladeshi Taka. Customers can purchase roaming packs from their main balance using the ‘My Robi’ and ‘My Airtel’ apps, without the need for credit cards or international payment methods. With a valid passport, visa, and travel ticket (if required), users can easily activate the roaming packs. Each trip allows a maximum of BDT 6,000 per pack, with an annual limit of BDT 30,000.

The service was officially launched on Thursday, August 14, at Robi’s corporate office. Customers can now purchase roaming packs before traveling, which will activate upon arrival at the destination.

At the press conference, Robi Axiata PLC Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Shihab Ahmad said, “Our new roaming packs offer more data, enhanced features, and the most attractive prices in the market. This will be the smartest choice for travelers. The packs include affordable data bundles, combo offers, and Asia-special packs, all easily accessible through ‘My Robi’ and ‘My Airtel.’”

Shahjahan Ali, Deputy Director of the Foreign Currency Policy Department at Bangladesh Bank, welcomed the initiative, stating, “We aim to make overseas transactions for Bangladeshi citizens easier and more transparent. Robi’s new service aligns perfectly with that goal. The ability to purchase roaming in local currency will simplify travel for Bangladeshis and reduce reliance on international payments.”

He added, “This is a significant advancement for Bangladesh’s telecom sector. By offering roaming purchases in Bangladeshi Taka, Robi has set a commendable example in customer service and financial inclusion.”

Also present at the event were Bangladesh Bank’s Deputy Director Muhammad Moniruzzaman Moni and Deputy Director Farzana Rahman. Robi Axiata PLC representatives included Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Sahed Alam, Chief People Officer Muhammad Shoaeb Beg, Head of Marketing Shawkat Kader Chowdhury, and other officials.
