A U.S. federal judge has denied Apple’s motion to dismiss the antitrust lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice, which accuses the tech giant of monopolistic practices in the smartphone market. The ruling was delivered on Monday by U.S. District Judge Julien Neals in Newark, New Jersey, according to Reuters.

The Justice Department, along with several state attorneys general, alleges that Apple has undermined competition and restricted consumer choice by imposing limitations on third-party app and device developers.

Apple has stated that the case is "wrong on the facts and the law" and affirmed its commitment to defending itself in court.

The lawsuit, originally filed in March 2024, targets Apple’s fees and technological barriers imposed on app developers. In 2024, Apple’s smartphone sales totaled $201 billion.

The case is expected to span several years as legal proceedings continue.
