Remembering long and complex Wi-Fi passwords is now a thing of the past. Sharing internet with friends and family has become significantly easier, thanks to features available in modern smartphones. Today’s devices offer quick and secure ways to share Wi-Fi credentials—without the need to say or type them out manually—although the method may vary by device type.

While one can always go to the Wi-Fi settings and view or copy the password to send it via text, the following techniques are not only more secure but also eliminate the need to reveal the password directly.

Sharing Wi-Fi Password from iPhone to Other Apple Devices

Since iOS 11, Apple has enabled Wi-Fi password sharing between its devices—iPhones, iPads, and Macs—provided they are updated to the latest iOS, iPadOS, or macOS versions.

Before sharing, users must ensure that both devices are updated, have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled, personal hotspots turned off, and the recipient’s Apple ID email saved in their contacts.

The process is simple:

  1. Unlock both iPhones.

  2. Place them near each other.

  3. On the receiving iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and select the network.

  4. A prompt will appear on the sender's device with the option to "Share Password."

  5. Tap Share Password, then Done.

The receiving device will automatically connect to the network without entering the password.

Sharing Wi-Fi Password from iPhone to Android

Apple doesn’t natively support password sharing with Android. However, a QR code can be generated to facilitate the process.

Option 1 involves using the Shortcuts app (iOS 17 or later):

  • Create a new shortcut with a custom text in the format:
    WIFI:S:Network_Name;T:WPA;P:Password;;

  • Add a QR code generation action and display it using Quick Look.

  • Run the shortcut and let the Android user scan it using their camera or a QR scanner.

Option 2 involves using third-party sites like qifi.org to generate a QR code based on your network credentials, which the Android device can scan for instant connection.

Sharing Wi-Fi Password from Android to iPhone or Other Devices

Android 10 and later versions allow QR code-based Wi-Fi sharing:

  • Open Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.

  • Tap the connected network name and select the Share or QR Code icon.

  • Authenticate via PIN or fingerprint if required.

  • The QR code appears on screen, ready to be scanned.

iPhone users can scan the QR code using the default Camera app or the Code Scanner from Control Center to connect automatically.

Tips for Secure Sharing

To maintain privacy, users are advised to use QR codes or built-in share features rather than sending passwords via text. It’s also recommended to create separate SSIDs and passwords for guest or public access and keep all devices updated.

Troubleshooting Tips

If sharing fails, ensure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on both devices, restart them if necessary, keep them unlocked and close to each other, and verify contact and Apple ID settings. For QR scanning, ensure the receiving device is using an appropriate QR reader—on iPhones, the Camera app suffices.

Modern smartphones continue to make connectivity easier and safer—no more scrambling for passwords.
