An international seminar titled ‘SASSO Breeding for Value’ was held in Dhaka to promote the genetic development of color birds (commonly known as ‘Rangin Murgi’) and introduce profitable, sustainable, and modern breeding technologies to farmers. The event took place at the Ilish Conference Hall of Holiday Inn Dhaka City Centre in Moghbazar.

Organized by Hendrix Genetics, a leading global animal breeding company, the seminar featured representatives from Bangladesh, Spain, France, and South Korea. Also in attendance were poultry farmers, hatchery entrepreneurs, poultry traders, researchers, educators, livestock officials, journalists, and students from across the country.

The seminar was moderated by Md. Mahiuddin, Country Manager (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka) of Hendrix Genetics.

He remarked, “The poultry industry is no longer just about food security—it has become a vital sector for economic development, nutritional improvement, and employment generation. Although there is strong consumer demand for indigenous-flavored chicken, farmers often lag behind in terms of production. The SASSO breed presents a modern and proven solution to this issue.”

He further stated, “SASSO birds retain the taste of native chickens while offering high egg and meat productivity. They are easy to rear, disease-resistant, and cost-effective. This breed has already gained widespread popularity in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. It is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening Bangladesh’s rural economy.”

Among the key speakers at the seminar were Edouard Perrout and Alba Mesas Romero from France-based breeding brand SASSO; Dr. Myeong Seob Kim from Hipra; Dr. Ali Haidar, Technical Manager of Hendrix Genetics; and Dr. Mehedi Hasan, Technical Service Manager, Asia Layer. Their presentations covered various topics such as avian influenza control, hatchery management, feed quality, bird care during heat stress, vaccination techniques, and water quality.

The seminar reflected not only the participants’ technical understanding but also their strong enthusiasm and commitment to advancing the poultry industry.

Several farmers and entrepreneurs attending the event noted that, “Research-based and sustainable breeding technologies are still limited in Bangladesh. As a result, farmers often suffer losses or fail to achieve optimal productivity. With affordable and high-performing breeds like SASSO, it's possible to preserve the local taste while improving output.”

Discussions also highlighted the increasing demand for native or traditional chickens not only in Bangladesh but throughout South Asia. While local breeds are cherished for their taste, their lower productivity makes it difficult to remain competitive in the market. Hence, genetic improvement, proper management, and greater awareness were emphasized as critical needs.

From morning till night on June 16, the seminar featured multiple sessions, peer discussions, experience-sharing, and strategic planning for the future.

At the conclusion of the seminar, Hendrix Genetics announced its commitment to organizing similar events regularly to enhance technology adoption in Bangladesh’s poultry sector. The organization affirmed its continued efforts to improve farmers’ skills and awareness across the country.
