Microsoft Makes Major Move with $400M Swiss Investment
U.S.-based tech giant Microsoft has announced a $400 million investment in Switzerland’s artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing sectors. The announcement was made during a meeting on Monday in Bern between Swiss Finance Minister Guy Parmelin and Microsoft Vice Chair Brad Smith, according to a Reuters report.
Microsoft stated that the investment will support the expansion and modernization of its four data centers around Geneva and Zurich. This upgrade will allow data to be stored locally within Switzerland, enhancing data sovereignty and security.
Currently, Microsoft employs approximately 1,000 people in Switzerland. While the company has not disclosed how many new jobs this investment might generate, it did confirm plans to expand partnerships with small and medium-sized enterprises and increase AI-related training initiatives across the country.
